About me…
So to explain my life- (as stated in my first post), I am a Mum and Nan I have a loving husband that would give me the world if he could. Although at the same time he has his own story of struggles to tell, and has been left with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He tries hard to overcome the issues related to this but unfortunately he regularly becomes overwhelmed and locks himself away from the public’s prying eyes.
I have dedicated most of my life to raising our 3 children and working whenever the timing allowed. I also love all forms of craft and use my spare time to make and create many items for family and friends.
When finally our children began to head off on their own life’s path we began to plan a get-away for a well-earned rest.
This is when we received the news our 2.5yr old grandson A.J. had been taken to our local hospital with his mother, she had passed out due to extensive drug use, and the unimaginable story unfolded before us.
Her parents had removed A.J.’s two older half-siblings from the house weeks before and chose to leave A.J. behind, an inexcusable act that could have had devastating consequences.
These situations are the reality for more and more families due to continual drug use and negative indulgences, leaving the grandparents in so many cases left to hold the reigns.
The reality of all this for us, we then spent two and a half years through the court system to gain full legal custody of A.J. to protect him and are now in full parent mode and through this journey we faced the path of Autism.
My documenting began due to requiring many items for court, medical, and more, then noticing all the folders, forms and booklets gathering in piles I decide to put it all together and slowly our story took shape.
Using the story to vent about many situations A.J. has faced, I began to also realise how little knowledge and understanding there is regarding the many variables of Autism that may take shape.
I then took another path to gain more understanding and share my knowledge to others, this I did in the form of a local support group and facebook outlet. I have now added a website to sell the many sensory products I have made and this blog to share the full story so others can see we are all here taking similar steps into the world of Autism and ‘you are not alone’.
I will not make excuses for stating the many facts I share, they are known by many. I do however use different names to protect those involved, although some may connect with us I ask to keep our names private for that protection.
I welcome you to join me in our journey and hope it helps you to understand a little better and maybe how to help in your own journey’s path.
Thankyou, Nanna. xxxxxx
