When you have to step out of your Comfort Zone.

A.J. as he likes to be seen, incognito (or not)

Sometimes we have progress shine through all the mayhem that surrounds us……
…..and today was one such day.

The holidays, as usual, has seen a roller-coaster of emotion and confusion as the lack of routine schedules make it hard for A.J. to know what to do and how to cope with each day.

Although as we are now actively accessing the NDIS, A.J. has gained inclusion into a few social activities to help with this and other social concepts.

With this inclusion he has joined some holiday activity events that are helping to assist with social understanding, as well as keeping a routine program to help with the schedule of a few days.

Today after attending one of these activities, we then headed out to do a little shopping before going home.
As this is something I would normally not attempt after such a busy day, A.J. was happy to oblige while wanting to find a few music CD's he was interested in purchasing.

Well the order of events changed as I bumped into a friend needing to chat about concerns she was facing with her child.
A.J. was calm and patiently waited, then looked in at the music shop to take up the time, as he came back to see if I was ready to look at his selection, I noticed it seemed he had responded to a passer-by, something that would NEVER had occurred prior, then he came to see if I was ready.

On arriving home he then stated quite proudly, "did you see I spoke to that man today"
I replied "yes I did, what was that all about"
His smile became more distinct as he announced -
"I saw his music shirt and told him -"nice taste in music" - and he said - "yes a great band" -
I was so scared and nearly had an anxiety attack, but I had to say I liked his shirt."

I smiled and replied "Well done A.J. I am so very proud of you. That was a great step to take."

With that, he happily headed to his room, saying "I am still breathing really fast, but I had to say it".

..........such a happy parent moment...............
