Little Moments to Enjoy......

special moments with a favourite cousin
So proud of our little man being relaxed and settled while coping with so many different changes;
Holiday mayhem hit with a vengeance and all A.J. saw before him was a lack of order or routine, having such a regimented school routine, he was confused with not knowing what needed doing, waking at the same time, and still setting up the day in a vague subconscious attempt to seem normal then suddenly seeing there isn't anything to focus on.
I helped A.J. arrange a routine schedule to help him keep everything on a calm and expected pace; he then decided to link the time schedule onto his iPad.
Although he started off trying to avoid the ‘work’ sections off his list, he easily relaxed into the process, coming to inform me of each new section, stating what needed doing as it came up on his iPad alarm.
During his schedule we arranged for homework to be included; although A.J. happily set out to do his work, at times he struggled to understand the process with some of his maths problems and became upset, working hard to stay in control he took timeout to calm and gain composure before continuing.
During break times he veered towards the one thing left to do, setting up for the day in front of his Sony system, and Minecraft (of course)......

Planning for a few days of outdoor activities to be included in the schedule- including park time, visiting with friends, and Special Moment Outings, on one particular day we ventured out of town with my parents spending the day visiting historical and tourist sites.
It’s amazing how we forget to take time to view the local heritage sites in our own district.
Happily chatting with his poppy and great-poppy, A.J. was totally consumed by the different displays and museum attractions, finding something different  in each section to become entranced by, then reading and learning as much as he can about it, with the help from both his pops, becoming engrossed in discussions about the knowledge of each item.
On the way home A.J. stated to me-
“Hey Nan, both my Poppys know lots and lots of stuff”.
“Yep that’s correct”, I replied.
“And great-pop is a ‘living human documentary’. You know why? He has learnt so much of history; he is the best one to tell me about what happened from here to the dawn of time.
I think it’s cos he was really there”
Me- “….that’s nice; but….ummm, I don’t think so…..he wasn’t ‘actually’ there”
--
During another day after doing some reading A.J. came to me with a question,
“Nan” he asked “can I ask you something?
If a word is out there ‘someone’ made it up; so if ‘all’ words are made-up then there has to be a meaning to it; then I need to know the meaning of all the words.”
-‘Yes that’s when you look up a dictionary’
“If I made a word up it’s because I used it with a meaning,
So I need to find somewhere that tells everyone else the meaning of the word I made”
My reply – ‘Hunn it doesn’t work exactly like that, if ‘you’ or a ‘game’ make up a word, or name, that doesn’t already exist or the word is being used with a different meaning, the dictionary or on-line sites don’t ‘automatically’ have the listing of that word or meaning.
A.J. then stated – “Well they should, that’s what they’re used for….”
--
“Nan I have another question…..If a Librarian has infinite knowledge from reading all the masses of books in the library……and a priest has infinite Religious knowledge that he learns straight from God……Then who will win knowing the most knowledge”
…I guess it depends on what the topic of conversation is about…
“Hmmmmm…...good point Nan………”
--
Philosophical conversations are so amazing and so in-depth with A.J.
And some are just plain hilarious….
A friend came to visit and with A.J. in full blown chatter mode, he was constantly pacing around, distracting us with his abundance of knowledge…to say the least…in super speed fast-forward-motion and action…
My friend, without thinking, responded with… “A.J. calm down and give us a break, you stress the shit out of us.”
Without taking a breath, A.J. chimed in with…. “Will that be with the use of a ‘supersonic semi-automatic plunger’ special order?”
My friend responded with……“Huhh, what? Why a plunger?”
A.J. answered, “To help you get the shit out”
Both of us just looked at him with a dazed non-responsive expression. What could we say!!!

With all that we have been through we are finally now at the best place we could be….content in our life and finally finding the routine schedule that fits our unique lifestyle.

The holidays have been so relaxing; for the first time we have been able to set out a routine that has worked for everyone, we have all gained a little something that we enjoyed and as a family have had a very settled and fulfilling time.

We are now setting up for return of school and even that has been a smooth transition with the only worry A.J. faced was realising he had left his English book at school and worried where it would be and what happens if he can’t find it.

I immediately contacted his support teacher who assured A.J. that it will be resolved somehow and he was quite happy with the response.
